Are your bricks and mortar stores open for browsing?
UPDATE: As of November 23, 2020, all TYPE locations are open for curbside pickup only
Yes, all three TYPE locations are currently open. Here are the precautions we are taking for the safety of our staff and customers:
- Masks or face coverings are mandatory
- Sanitizing stations at the front of each store
- Customer capacity is limited, and we ask you to stay 6' apart and be conscious of your fellow shoppers and mindful of those waiting their turn to browse
Can I browse your entire inventory online?
Our online shop currently features a selection of new releases, featured titles, staff favourites, and an opportunity to pre-order the most highly anticipated books of the season. With three separate stores and hundreds of books arriving each day, we are unable to feature all of our titles online as stock levels fluctuate daily and we would not be able to guarantee availability.
The book I want isn't available on your website, how can I find out if it's in stock?
The quickest way to find out if we have a particular title in stock is to call the location nearest you, where one of our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be happy to let you know what's available. If our phone lines are busy (they often are), you are welcome to get in touch via email.
The book I want isn't available on your website or on your shelves, can I order it?
Absolutely! Call the store nearest you and we can take your order over the phone. Special orders usually take 10 to 14 business days to arrive, and there is no extra charge.
Once your book arrives, we'll call you to let you know it's ready to be picked up. If you would prefer to keep pickup contactless, we can process credit card payment over the phone and have your book ready to go when you arrive. Otherwise, simply come visit us during regular business hours and we can complete the transaction in store.
If you would prefer to pay for your purchase online and have your books shipped, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll create a custom listing for you so that you are able to check out quickly and at your convenience online.
Do you only sell books? What other products do you carry?
We carry a wide range of gift and stationery items and rotating collections throughout the year. In addition to our book selection, you can find greeting cards, gift wrap, puzzles and games, the occasional scented candle, tote bags, and magazines. A scroll through our Instagram feeds is the best way to see what's new, or you could always give us a call.
How do I order one of your famous Mystery Bags?
After adding a Mystery Bag to your cart and completing the purchase, please follow the link provided to tell us about your reading tastes and interests. This will help us curate a selection of books especially for you (or a friend, or relative, or anyone really). For $100 (taxes included) you will receive 4-5 books chosen by our expert staff based on your preferences. Mystery Bags qualify for flat rate shipping, or can be picked up at any of our locations.
How do pre-orders work?
By pre-ordering a book before its release date, you are guaranteed to get a copy as soon as we get it and don't have to worry about it selling out! Other perks include getting first access to signed copies, and exclusive, limited editions.
Please note that pre-order items are currently not in stock and will ship on the stated release date (unless the publication is delayed, in which case we’ll notify you via email with an updated ETA). If your order includes both in-stock and pre-order items, your entire order will be shipped once the pre-order arrives. If you would like the in-stock items to be shipped immediately instead of being held, please place a separate order. The same goes for pickup; should you prefer to pick up your in-stock item immediately, please place a separate order. If you would prefer to pick up everything at once, you may include all items in the same order.
What's the best way to find out what's new in stock?
Following our social media accounts and joining our mailing list is the best way to receive updates and get a glimpse of all the new stock arriving daily.
Do you host book launches and events?
In the Before Times, we certainly did. And we hope to throw parties in our stores again as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we have several virtual events and book clubs coming up, which you can learn more about on the Events page, our social media accounts, or by subscribing to our mailing list.
Are TYPE gift cards valid both online and in-store?
Gift cards can be purchased online in denominations of $25, $50, $100 and $200. Gift cards never expire and are delivered via email, which you are then welcome to forward to the intended recipient. Electronic gift cards may also be redeemed at any one of our store locations - simply present a printed copy of the email upon checkout, or have your redemption code handy. Please note that TYPE paper gift certificates are valid in-store only and cannot be redeemed online.
